| J.S. Vig contributes to Taylor Conservatory project |
|
J.S. Vig Construction Co. of Taylor is making a contribution to the beautification and cultural life of its hometown by assisting with the construction of the city’s new Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. The attraction is being built and landscaped on about two acres at the city’s Heritage Park, on Pardee Street, between Goddard and Northline roads. J.S. Vig has donated supervisory expertise and the installation of the project foundation system for a one-third replica of the famed Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory on Belle Isle. During the planning stages, J.S. Vig also worked closely with organizations like the Taylor Rotary Club on the project, said Dan Hall, a construction supervisor at the company. The City broke ground on Oct. 10, and the Conservatory is expected to be up yet this year. It measures 90 feet long, 24 feet wide, and 28 feet high. The interior and exterior of the Conservatory itself will be planted with annual and perennial flowers next spring. J.S. Vig thus joins a number of individuals and community organizations pitching in on the project. DTE Energy originally commissioned the building’s construction for the 1999 Detroit International Bloomfest, and later donated the structure to the City of Taylor. A non-profit organization, the Taylor Conservatory Foundation, is supervising the project and will oversee educational activities there. |
